Businesses, schools, churches, and area organizations are now being sought to place a collection box for their members, staff, or students in high traffic areas during 91.9/91.5 The Family's 20th annual Help for the Homeless campaign March 1-25.
Donations will remain in the communities where they are collected.
NEW cleaning and personal care items such as laundry soap, hair and dental care items, diapers, and bathroom tissue are needed. Last year 550 area donation sites collected more than $193,000 worth of products. To learn more or request a collection box, call Heidi Prahl at 91.9/91.5 The Family 800-236-9364.
“I've been without work now 2 years since the auto industry began laying off and I've been homeless now almost a month. It was very hard swallowing my pride and asking for the Emergency Shelter for help. But with nowhere else to turn, here I am today. With all of the generous donations from the good kind hearted people at The Family and all the folks at home able to give, the shelter and other agencies are able to provide me with the necessary help I need during these difficult and strenuous times. God bless all the people who donated both large and small. Your kindness and generosity are genuinely appreciated”. - Doug, Shelter Resident March 2011
Help for the Homeless works directly with the homeless coalitions in Brown County, the Fox Valley, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, and Manitowoc to stock the shelves of area homeless and crisis programs so that they can dedicate their limited financial resources to providing qualified personnel, safe housing, nutritious food, education, and counseling to those they serve. The goal of Help for the Homeless is to supply a year’s worth of product to each agency.
The highly successful 2011 collaboration of the Brown County Homeless and Housing Coalition together with the Brown County United Way will continue in 2012.
Donations will be collected at Festival Foods Stores, participating businesses, schools, churches, organizations and at 91.9/91.5 The Family studios March 1 – 25. Ideal collection sites consist of high traffic areas where employees/students/members will see the box regularly. Factory or office break rooms are great.
Anyone interested in participating as a collection site please contact Heidi Prahl at 91.9/91.5 The Family, 800-236-9364.
Thanks to co-sponsors: Affinity Medical Group, Festival Foods Stores, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Northstar Dental Group and WFRV TV 5

| "We were overwhelmed at the generosity of the community. The really cool thing is that the volume of this donation helps us with administrative costs. It saves us many hours of asking and coordinating other organizations, schools, etc. to do a drive for us. That way the hours can be spent on larger projects. Most importantly, it allows us to spend more money on direct financial assistance for those in need with basics such as housing, utilities and transportation." |
