Black Forest Oatmeal Cookies

1 cup butter-flavored shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
3 cups quick oats
6 ounces white chocolate, chopped (or white chips)
2 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
¾ cup dried cherries, coarsely chopped
½ cup sliced almonds

Cream shortening with sugars.  Add eggs and vanilla; blend well.  Sift together flour, soda, salt and baking powder.  Gradually add to creamed mixture.  With spoon, add oats, chocolates, cherries and nuts.

Drop tablespoonsful of dough on ungreased cookie sheets.  Bake at 375 F 9 – 11 minutes. 

Yield: 3 dozen
