What:

The Family’s annual ‘Help for the Homeless’ hygiene drive works with area homeless coalitions every spring to stock the shelves of 80+ homeless and crisis programs in 19 Wisconsin communities in our listening areas. The goal of ‘Help for the Homeless’ is to supply a year’s worth of product to each agency (In many cases, this is happening!). In 2020, generous community members at 900+ businesses, churches, and schools hosted collection boxes and donated $428,000 worth of laundry soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. to their local crisis programs. In its 28th year, the drive has provided more than $3.7 million dollars’ worth of hygiene supplies to local crisis programs and those they serve.  Donations of supplies and financial support will be used in the community where they come from.

How:

YOU HAVE OPTIONS! Logistics of donating will change this year due to COVID-19, but the need is greater than ever. Our local agencies count on the event to support children, families, and community members in need!

• February 14-March 7, drop donations off at Festival Foods or Walgreens Stores OR join more than 900+ local businesses, churches, and schools who participate annually, and…

• A) HOST A COLLECTION BOX: place collection boxes and in common areas and invite staff, members, and students to contribute.

• B) DON’T HOST A BOX, BUT STILL PARTICIPATE BY PROMOTING THE DRIVE VIRTUALLY IN-HOUSE!  If most people are off-site, then participate by encouraging them to donate supplies at local public collection sites or donate funds.

• C) MAKE A FINANCIAL DONATION: Donate securely online via the “Give to the Drive” button above, or make checks out to “The Family” with “Help for the Homeless” written on the memo line. Mail to: The Family Radio, Attn. Heidi Prahl, 1909 W Second St, Appleton WI 54914. Support will be designated for the participating community closest to the address of the donor. Funds will be used to purchase gift cards to local retailers for the purchase of hygiene supplies. 100% of donated funds, less bank fees, go toward supplies.

• Trash bags (shelters especially need these for bedrooms!)

• Diapers (sizes 3-6 and Pull-Ups)

• Tampons and pads (pads for young teens)
