Appleton, WI – 91.9/91.5/88.5 The Family Radio Network: 91.9 The Family received The Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce Corporate Citizen/Corporate Leadership Award for their annual “Help for the Homeless” hygiene drive at the 2017 Business Award Luncheon on May 3rd at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton.
The goal of the Chamber’s awards program is to recognize and reward businesses and organizations in the Fox Cities that help make this a vibrant, innovative and dynamic community. The awards are given based on leadership, dedication and achievement. The Corporate Citizen / Corporate Leadership Award recognizes organizations with a philosophy of giving and community involvement that have made significant differences in the health and well-being of the Fox Cities. The award encourages and supports corporate social responsibility and community leadership.
The Family’s annual “Help for the Homeless” hygiene drive is a grass roots, community-driven effort in collaboration with area homeless coalitions to supply a year’s worth of new hygiene and cleaning products to our local crisis programs so that they can dedicate their limited financial resources to providing qualified staff, education, counseling, shelter and food to those they serve.
More than $2.5 million worth of hygiene supplies have been donated to local crisis programs since the drive began 25 years ago. All donations stay in the communities where they are collected.
This spring, 89 crisis programs in 15 communities in The Family’s listening areas of Northeast and Central Wisconsin received $377,000 worth of hygiene supplies from their caring neighbors. Crisis agencies estimate that 77,000 people will be served through these products. 820 businesses, churches and schools participated by placing collection boxes in their high traffic areas and inviting their own staff, members, and students to fill the boxes with hygiene items.
Public collection boxes were hosted by Festival Foods Stores, Shopko Stores, and Walgreens.
“About a dozen residents worked together to unload all the hygiene donations from the truck, assembly-line style. The atmosphere was one of such positive camaraderie. They were so inspired to see the physical proof of how much our community supports them. It was a very cool way to end such an inspiring day!” – COTS Transitional Shelters, Appleton
The Family radio network, thanks everyone who donated, volunteered, and sponsored the drive this spring! Next year’s dates are Feb.18-March 11. More at thefamily.net or 800-236-9364.
Sponsored in NE Wisc. by: 91.9/91.5 The Family with FOX 11 WLUK, The Shopko Foundation, Festival Foods Stores, and Fox Communities Credit Union.
