The Family’s 2019 “Help for the Homeless” Hygiene Drive Tops $406,000
Appleton, Green Bay, Wausau/Stevens Point/Sheboygan WI –91.9FM/91.5FM/91.3FM/88.5FM The Family: The Family Radio Network announces the results of their 2019 “Help for the Homeless” hygiene drive. $406,000 worth of new hygiene and cleaning products were donated in 15 Northeast and Central Wisconsin communities for their local crisis programs. The 89 crisis agencies benefiting from these donations are sincerely grateful for this generous help! In its 27th year, “Help for the Homeless” donations have provided more than $3.3 million worth of hygiene supplies to local crisis programs and those they serve.
- “She cried tears of relief when she was able to take a full-size bottle of shampoo and a regular size bar of soap from our food pantry hygiene shelves. She shared, in between tears, that she’d had a phone call from school. Her kids had been bullied because of their greasy hair. ‘Do you know what’s it’s like to listen and know you can’t help?’, she asked me. When she left, she was smiling, clutching the soap and shampoo. Now, with our help, she could help her kids.” – Salvation Army, Fond du Lac
- “When her husband died, the bills started piling up. Her home was lost through foreclosure, and with her three young children – the youngest still in diapers, she learned to live out her car, surviving on next to nothing. She says that their first shower here at Hope House was life changing – it had been months since she’d been able to bathe her children. Our support, together with the hygiene supplies donated by compassionate strangers, has helped her to discover that there’s a whole community of caring people around her.” – Hope House, Manitowoc
- “‘Joe’ arrived for treatment with absolutely nothing, only the clothes on his back; which were torn and bloodied. We provided new clothing and underwear for him, and thanks to the generosity of this community, we could also offer him soap, deodorant, shampoo, a toothbrush etc. that we keep in stock for clients unable to afford their own. After receiving new clothes and products supplied by the hygiene drive, he told us gratefully ‘Wow, you have no idea how much this means to me. I feel like a human again!’” – Apricity, Appleton
The Family works with area homeless coalitions, inviting people to donate hygiene and cleaning items to their local crisis programs to help them direct their limited funds to provide qualified staff, counseling, shelter, and food to those they serve.
More than 900 local businesses, churches, and schools participated by placing collection boxes in their high traffic areas and inviting their own staff, members and students to donate for 3 weeks this spring. Public collection boxes were hosted by Festival Foods Stores, Shopko Stores, and Walgreens. Donations remain in the community where they are collected. The goal of “Help for the Homeless” is to supply a year’s worth of products to each agency.
91.9FM/91.5FM/91.3FM/88.5FM The Family radio network, along with the 89 crisis programs, thanks everyone who donated, volunteered for, and sponsored the drive this spring! Next year’s dates are Feb.17-March 10. More at thefamily.net or 800-236-9364. More info at thefamily.net.
